Southern hospitality meets nouveau hippie chic.
Depot Street is an eclectic songwriting collective made up of poets, scholars and musicians living in the High Country of North Carolina. Formed in 2017, their music spans the gamut of human emotion, and their live performances leave their audiences with chronic cases of permagrin.
How It Started
DEPOT STREET originated just across the road from S. Depot St, Boone, North Carolina. John and Lucas met at an open mic night in the Plemmons Student Union at Appalachian State University. They were each other's biggest fans that night, and had to meet each other afterwards. Very shortly thereafter, John asked Lucas to record for his solo EP, and the chemistry was so electric, they had to get some more people in on it! John remembered Michael, a friend of his from his Master's classes who played drums. He and Lucas came by Michael's house and jammed for a while, and knew they had something good! Still in need of a bassist and another vocalist, we didn't have to wait long before John met Cassidy at the gym, who mentioned she played bass, so he invited her to a rehearsal. Mere days later, John remembered a fan who first saw us at a show at an art museum, who happened to be a great singer and fiddler. Her name was Emily, and she was the final piece. Depot Street lives!
High Country Rhythm and Soul
Although they bring bits and pieces of many styles to their sound, the band can't deny their deep roots in the Appalachian Mountains. The only constant in their combination of classic rock, jazz, folk, alternative, and mathematical music is that unmistakable High Country spirit.
What We're Up to Now
DEPOT STREET is currently performing both original songs and cover songs all around Boone, North Carolina. After a quick tour of Miami, Florida and New Orleans, Louisiana, DEPOT STREET plans to spread the love throughout the big cities of NC! Behind the scenes, a full album is in the process of being recorded - stay tuned for updates!
